If you're shopping for a business laptop in Australia in 2026, the choice has never been better — or more confusing. Lenovo, HP and ASUS all produce genuinely excellent machines at very different price points, and the right answer depends heavily on what your team actually does all day.

At BITS Perth we're an authorised reseller of all three brands, so we've put together this no-nonsense guide based on what Australian businesses are actually buying through our online store. All prices are in AUD and include GST.

What Makes a Good Business Laptop in 2026?

Consumer laptops and business laptops might look similar on a shelf, but there are real differences that matter when you're spending 8+ hours a day on a machine, running it for 3–5 years, or managing a fleet across multiple staff.

The key things to look for in a genuine business-grade laptop:

  • Build quality & durability — MIL-STD-810H military-grade testing for drops, vibration and temperature extremes
  • Keyboard quality — business users type thousands of words a day; a mediocre keyboard is a real productivity cost
  • Warranty & support — most business models offer 3-year onsite warranties; consumer models typically only cover 1 year
  • Security features — fingerprint reader, IR camera (Windows Hello), TPM 2.0, and BIOS-level management tools
  • Upgradeability — some business models allow RAM and SSD upgrades; most consumer thin-and-lights don't
  • Battery life — aim for 10+ hours of real-world usage, not lab conditions

Lenovo ThinkPad — The Gold Standard for Business

The ThinkPad range is the most trusted business laptop line in the world, and for good reason. The iconic red TrackPoint, rock-solid keyboard, and enterprise-grade security features have made ThinkPads a default choice for corporations, government departments, and serious professionals across Australia.

Lenovo ThinkPad P-Series (Mobile Workstation)

From ~$5,500 AUD
Intel Core Ultra 7 NVIDIA RTX Graphics 16"–17" Display Up to 64GB RAM ISV Certified

The ThinkPad P-Series is for engineers, architects, video editors and anyone running demanding professional software like AutoCAD, SolidWorks or Adobe Premiere. ISV certification means the hardware is specifically tested with professional applications — you won't get random driver crashes mid-project. The build is tank-like; these genuinely last 5+ years in hard use.

Best for: Engineers, architects, 3D designers, video/media professionals, scientists running compute-heavy workloads.

Lenovo ThinkPad X/T/E Series (Core Business)

From ~$1,200 AUD
Intel Core i5/i7/Ultra 14"–15" Display Up to 32GB RAM MIL-STD-810H Excellent Keyboard

The T and X series hit the sweet spot for most office-based professionals. The T14/T15 are the go-to fleet laptop for Australian SMBs — reliable, fast, easy to manage via Lenovo Vantage, and available with 3-year onsite warranties. The E series offers similar quality at a lower entry price point for cost-conscious buyers.

Best for: Office staff, managers, remote workers, IT fleet deployments. The T-series is arguably the best all-round business laptop on the market.

HP EliteBook — Premium for the Boardroom

HP's EliteBook range is the prestige end of HP's business lineup — thinner, lighter, and with the premium materials to match. They tend to attract professionals who want their laptop to look as good as it performs, and HP's enterprise management tools (HP Sure View, HP Wolf Security) are among the best in the industry.

HP EliteBook 800 Series

From ~$1,800 AUD
Intel Core Ultra 5/7 13"–16" Display Up to 64GB LPDDR5 HP Wolf Security HP Sure View Privacy

The EliteBook 840 and 860 are the mainstays of HP's business fleet. They're noticeably thinner and lighter than ThinkPads while still clearing MIL-STD-810H certification. The HP Sure View privacy screen (built-in screen filter at the press of a button) is a genuinely useful feature for executives and anyone who works in public spaces.

Best for: Executives, consultants, sales professionals, finance teams, anyone who travels frequently or works from cafes and airports.

HP ZBook Firefly / Studio (Mobile Workstation)

From ~$2,400 AUD
Intel Core Ultra 7/9 NVIDIA RTX / AMD Radeon 14"–16" 4K Display ISV Certified DreamColor Display

HP's answer to the ThinkPad P-Series. The ZBook range is HP's mobile workstation line, featuring ISV-certified configurations and HP's famous DreamColor display (factory calibrated to near-perfect colour accuracy). A strong choice for creative professionals who need workstation power in a slimmer chassis than traditional workstations.

Best for: Graphic designers, video producers, architects, engineers — especially those already invested in HP's ecosystem.

ASUS ExpertBook — Value Without Compromise

ASUS doesn't get as much attention as Lenovo and HP in the business space, but the ExpertBook range punches well above its price point. If budget is a real constraint but you still need a durable, capable business machine, ASUS deserves a serious look.

ASUS ExpertBook B-Series

From ~$900 AUD
Intel Core i5/i7 / AMD Ryzen 14"–15.6" Display Up to 32GB RAM MIL-STD-810H Fingerprint Reader

The ExpertBook B1 and B5 offer genuine business-grade durability — MIL-STD-810H tested, with spill-resistant keyboards and TPM 2.0 security — at a price point well below comparable Lenovo and HP models. ASUS has also significantly improved their enterprise management tools in recent years. Battery life is outstanding on the AMD Ryzen variants.

Best for: Budget-conscious businesses, startups, small teams that need solid reliable machines without enterprise price tags. Also great for students and educators.

What About RAM and Storage?

For business use in 2026, the baseline should be 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD — though if budget allows, 32GB RAM and 512GB SSD will serve you much better for the life of the machine, especially if you're running virtual machines, multiple browser tabs, or any video/design work.

💡 Pro tip: If you're buying in bulk for a team, it's almost always worth upgrading RAM at purchase time rather than later. RAM upgrades after the fact on modern thin-and-lights are often impossible (soldered RAM), and even on upgradeable models, the cost and labour usually exceeds the savings from buying baseline first.

Warranty in Australia — What to Look For

This is where buying from an authorised Australian reseller matters. Consumer-grade laptops bought from grey market importers or overseas may come with no Australian warranty — you'd need to ship the unit back overseas for any claim.

All laptops sold through BITS Perth's online store carry full Australian manufacturer warranty, sourced through authorised local distribution channels. Most business-grade models come with a standard 12-month warranty, with options to upgrade to 3-year onsite coverage through the manufacturer.

⚠️ Watch out for grey imports: If a laptop price seems too good to be true on a marketplace site, it often is. Grey imports may not come with Australian warranty, may have non-Australian power adapters, and may not meet Australian electrical safety standards. Always buy from an authorised reseller.
